How consultation fees work
When you book on Afya1, you pay the consultation fee set by your provider. Online and home visits are billed as one session. Hospital bedside care is billed per day — you choose how many days at booking, and that total is what you pay. The fee is for professional time only. It does not cover medicine, laboratory tests, imaging, or other clinical extras. If those are needed after the visit, they are quoted separately for you to review before you pay. The original consultation fee is never increased, and extras are never added silently to the fare.

You see the provider’s fee before you confirm. Online and home visits are one session. Hospital bedside is billed per day for the number of days you select. That payment goes into escrow.

Receive care
Your provider delivers the online consult, home visit, or hospital bedside session. Notes and prescriptions, if any, are added to your record.

Review extras only if they are needed
Medicine, laboratory tests, imaging, or other clinical items are quoted separately. You review the quote before you pay. Nothing is added to the original fare.

Common questions
Does the booking amount include medicine or lab tests?
No. The booking amount is the consultation fee only. Medicine, laboratory tests, imaging, and other clinical extras are not included.
Can the provider raise the fee after I book?
No. Once you book, the consultation fee stays the same. Any extra clinical cost must appear on a separate quote for you to review first.
Do I have to accept an extra quote?
No. You choose whether to proceed with extras. The consultation you already paid for remains paid, whether you accept the extra quote or not.
How is hospital bedside care billed?
Bedside care is billed per day at the provider’s rate. You choose the number of days when you book, and you pay that total at checkout. A provider who charges KES 1,000 per day for 4 days is KES 4,000 at booking. Online and home visits stay a single session fee.
Where do I pay for medicine?
A prescription is a clinical instruction, not a charge on the consultation fee. You pay the pharmacy or laboratory for those items, or you pay a separate quoted amount if it is billed through Afya1.
